Five easy steps to structuring your marketing campaigns

Use this simple framework to ensure your marketing campaign is successful each and every time.

Everyone wants to make a bang in 2022, and in light of what’s already transpired this year, it’s clear that the video game industry is going to do exactly that. In this blog we will explore campaign planning, and show you how to carefully plan and structure your marketing campaigns in 5 easy steps to get better results with gamers and your audience, ensuring you have the best 2022 possible.

Planning takes time, it’s hard work, and frankly, none of us like doing it. So if every time you sit down to plan your campaigns you get stuck, then this blog can help you. We will arm you with a quick and easy-to-use five-step framework – yes, only five! – to help you execute the perfect marketing campaign plan.

Step 1 – Do your research! – Where are we now?

Take the time to understand your company, the marketing environment, and be sure to consider and factor in all the potential elements that may impact and hinder the success of your campaign. Remember, failing to prepare is preparing to fail!

A good way to do this is to complete a SWOT analysis. Using this approach, you can really get to grips with your internal and external marketing environment, knowing where your company’s strengths and weaknesses lie. Understanding who you are and where you stand in today’s busy world is key to cutting through the noise.

Step 2 – Set your objectives – Where are we going/where do we want to be?

Now you know your strengths and weaknesses, and you have an idea on what supplies you have. Next, you need a heading!

Based on your research, come up with some realistic objectives for your campaign. What are you trying to achieve? Perhaps you want more people to be aware of a new skin or piece of content in your game? Or perhaps you’re bringing a completely new game or product to market, in which case it’s likely you will want to increase product awareness. Regardless of your objective, remember to keep it simple and always ensure that your objectives are SMART!

(SMART = Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Based!)

Step 3 – How will you achieve these objectives? – How do we get there?

See this next step as the map, or the “how-to” part of your campaign. Building upon your research and realistic objectives, you can make a considered strategy on how you will achieve your objectives.

This may look like a content strategy, accurate market segmentation, and clear market targeting and positioning statements. It’s important these areas are covered to achieve your objectives.

Step 4 – Tactics & Actions – What do we do to get there? What is our plan for this journey?

Now you have a clear understanding of where you are, where you’re going, and how you’re getting there, it’s time to bring all these ingredients together in the form of an action plan. This plan will likely mirror your strategy and objectives, organizing the tools and channels that best suit your goals. This includes things like:

  • Social media schedules
  • Editorial calendars
  • Content plans
  • 90-day plans
  • Road maps

Regardless of the tools and channels you use, it is important to get organized. Keep everything on track and on time following one clear message driven by a well-researched and clear objective.

Step 5 – Set milestones!

So, are we there yet? Without accurate and relevant metrics and milestones, it is hard to know if your marketing campaign is really working. Ask yourself: What does success look like?

Using your goals and objectives from step 2, come up with some sensible and relevant metrics that can help you monitor your campaign. Milestones to help keep you on track, for example. Perhaps: “Reaching your first 10 leads” or “The first time your campaign breaks even and starts paying for itself?”

Regardless of what your metrics are if you aren’t checking as you go, how can you know if everything is working as it should be? Read our other blog on this to see the best way to measure your campaign’s performance.

Just remember to take one step at a time and be patient. The more you put into your plan, the easier your campaign will be to execute!
