Magic: The Gathering – Ikoria Campaign

When lockdown scuppered our plans for on-location filming, we worked fast to find a solution.

Goal

Raise awareness for Magic: The Gathering Arena and make the Ikoria launch feel like a blockbuster video game release.

Execution

After COVID-19 made live-action filming impossible, we took an innovative approach to the trailer, creating animations using flat images from the card artwork.

Results

Despite restrictions the video still earned more than 588,000 views, and generated considerable interest in the new set.

Originally planned as a live-action video similar to our Theros: Beyond Death campaign, the shape of this project changed due to COVID-19, becoming a bespoke animated trailer.

This project was a chance for us to display our adaptability and diverse skill set as we quickly developed an innovative solution to the challenges presented by the pandemic.

In the end, we were able to (very) quickly turn around an entirely new style of video which got an even stronger reception from the audience – as well as driving awareness, engagement, and conversion for Magic’s latest product.
